What is the Neuro-oncology Program?

It is the union of multiple specialists in the areas of Surgical Neuro-oncology, Neurology, General Oncology, Radiotherapy, Neuro-Radiology ENT surgeons (Endoscopic Cranium Base Surgery) Neuro-rehabilitation and Psychology. All dedicated to the treatment of this illness and trained in the best Cancer Centers around the world, operating with their same technology, offering their same protocols of quimotherapy and other advanced treatments against brain cancer.

What types of tumors are there?

In short there are two types: primary (that originate in the neural tissue) and secondary (metastases from cancer at other sites of the body). In the primary tumors there are benign (Meningiomas, Schwannomas, etc) and others with different grades of malignancy (low grade and high grade).

Surgery in brain tumors.

Surgery is usually the first step in treating brain tumors, either taking biopsies or removing the entire lesion. The goal of surgery is to maximize tumor resection in a safe manner, alleviate neurological deficits secondary to tumor or it’s mass effect, reduce intracranial pressure, the use of steroids, and to get a better response of additional treatments such as quimo or radiation therapy, consequently cure or prolong and improve quality of life.
