Charity Program

El Salvador is country that has been known for its capacity to improve through hard work. Despite the socio-economic progress, there is a marked difference between the different social strata; only about 20% of the population has an income over 1,000 USD monthly, having a 31.1% (2,015,000) of the population, below de international line of poverty.

The advanced neurological medical treatments, such as brain cancer and epilepsy, are totally inaccessible for an important percentage of the whole population. The national health network cannot cope and in some cases, it doesn’t count with the technical or human resources to fulfill the complete treatment for these diseases properly.

The Advanced Neuro-oncology Surgery program for community support (NEUROAYUDA) is conceived from the concern of a highly trained group of professionals, who believe that the multidisciplinary and a selfless work can shorten the breach in quality and types of treatment within the different social strata in the country. Our goal is not only to help people with stronger needs with surgery, but to instruct the health center personnel to attend more complex patients, and that eventually this can be done in their respective medical centers. In addition, it is intended to start simultaneously the research lines that pursue to better the quality attending these patients. They intend to seek the highest technical level available for people with limited economic resources, whom without this help, couldn’t afford this treatment.

How we work

Thanks to the administration of la Orden de Malta in El Salvador, we were able to establish a bank account in which monetary donations can be available to operate systematically 2 patients per month. This money will be used to cover expenses for tests, hospital and medications in the Hospital Militar or el Hospital de Diagnóstico (these are the two medical centers with the highest technological progress on treatment of these diseases). The average cost for patient is:

• Brain Tumor (diagnosis and surgery only)= $3,482.98
  
• Epilepsy Surgery = $3,882.98

We are aware that this program is not the complete solution for the national health problem. We are also aware that beside charity, it is also needed to develop medical capabilities and transmit this knowledge with the objective of accomplish a progress in the entire population’s health. This program seeks these goals, and your help is not only vital for the quality or life time of these patients, but to the national progress in the advanced training of complex diseases.
